He was ultimately informed by the UFC brass that he’d have to compete against Michael Morales for the interim title instead. Makhachev issued a statement saying his next bout will be one of the last of his legendary pro MMA career.\n\nSpeaking to Squawka, Prates said he believes Makhachev and his longtime friend and mentor Nurmagomedov only accept fights when they feel the circumstances are fully in their favor (via MMAJunkie).\n\n*“I think Khabib and Islam, they’re the same,” Prates said in an interview with Squawka. “They book fights when they want, when they feel really good. Of course, it’s OK – they are the champs. When Khabib was champ, he did the same. You wait too long to fight, do maybe one fight per year. It is what it is. I don’t think it’s the right way to do things.”*\n\nPrates believes that Makhachev should set a deadline for his next fight unless he plans to vacate the 170-pound gold.\n\n*“He should vacate his belt – not now. It’s OK – we’re going to fight for the interim belt,” Prates said. “But after that, after Ramadan, we’re planning to fight in June or something like that, and if he says, ‘Oh, I’m not ready,’ come on. Stop. Time to retire. Is June the deadline? Yeah.”*\n\nPrates’ manager has claimed that UFC matchmakers are none too pleased with Makhachev over ditching negotiations to headline UFC 336. Time will tell if the UFC brass might try to pressure the pound-for-pound great into a return even quicker than the June date Prates has suggested.\n\n**Do you agree with Carlos Prates’ stance on Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov turning down fights?
